The Foundation is the home of numerous industry-leading projects and collaborations including Adoptium, Software Defined Vehicle, Eclipse IDE, IoT and Jakarta EE. Supported by over 350 members globally, the Foundation has an established international reach and reputation. The Eclipse Foundation is growing its Policy team in Europe to better serve the open source community and address the numerous new regulations that impact the open source ecosystem. In particular, the Eclipse Foundation has formed the Open Regulatory Compliance industry collaboration, representing industry, other open source foundations, and other stakeholders in addressing new regulations like the Cyber Resilience Act.

The Role
As a European Policy Advisor, you’ll join the Policy team to support the development and execution of the foundation's policy initiatives in Brussels, ensuring that the foundation is effectively advocating for its non-profit interests in the European Union. This position reports to the Vice President European Operations and Policy and will support the entire staff to address policy topics. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the EU policy landscape and experience working with policymakers, regulators, and other stakeholders in the tech industry.

The Role
As a European Policy Advisor, you’ll join the Policy team to support the development and execution of the foundation's policy initiatives in Brussels, ensuring that the foundation is effectively advocating for its non-profit interests in the European Union. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the EU policy landscape and experience working with policymakers, regulators, and other stakeholders in the tech industry.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement policy initiatives that support the foundation's mission and advocacy goals in the EU both in terms of government affairs and public policy.
- Build relationships with policymakers, regulators, and other stakeholders to advance the interests of the foundation and our open source technologies.
- Represent the foundation at EU-level events and conferences and advocate for the benefits of open source software and the role it can play in promoting innovation and competitiveness.
- Provide analysis, strategic guidance and support to the foundation's leadership on EU policy issues and opportunities that impact open source software development and adoption.
- Advise, educate and support Eclipse Foundation staff in their engagements with public policy.
- Monitor and analyse EU policy developments related to open source software, identifying emerging issues and opportunities for the foundation to engage.
- Collaborate with other open source software foundations and organisations to advance shared policy objectives at the EU level.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience in EU policy advocacy, preferably in the tech industry or related fields.
- Demonstrated understanding of EU policy-making processes and institutions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience building relationships with policymakers, regulators, and other stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical and strategic thinking abilities, with the ability to synthesize complex information and develop effective policy solutions.
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative and distributed team.
Preferred
- Multilingual.
- Experience in working with the open source software ecosystem and understanding of its potential to drive innovation and economic growth in Europe.
- Experience in coalition-building.
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in public policy, law, computer science or equivalent.
